Dan Magid is the founder and Managing Principal of Clear Path. He has over two decades of finance experience, primarily as a buy-side decision-maker at institutional investor scale. He brings a unique multi-disciplinary and entrepreneurial approach, along with a compelling track record of consistently creating significant value for investors.
After graduating from University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce (with Distinction), Dan joined Bear Stearns’ Investment Banking program. He excelled there and was among only five percent of analysts asked to stay beyond the standard two-year program.
In 2003, a former Bear colleague recruited Dan to join Silverback Asset Management, a new hedge fund led by a seasoned investment team in Chapel Hill, NC. Within a few years, he advanced from Junior Trader to Portfolio Manager, and later Chief Investment Officer. For most of his 14 years at Silverback, he was a member of the Management Committee and helped run all facets of the business – including investments, operations, capital-raising, and more. He played a major role in the firm’s success in raising and investing billions of dollars from many types of investors, including during the Financial Crisis when the firm launched a new fund that became one of the best-performing hedge funds of 2009.
In 2017, Dan resigned from Silverback to enjoy a sabbatical.
In 2018, Dan founded Clear Path Asset Management as a boutique real estate investment manager. He is a meaningful investor in all the firm’s investments.
Dan lives in Durham, North Carolina, with his wife and three children.
